The Hague Diplomacy Platform

Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs, Leiden University

Diplomacy plays an increasing role in society; this is apparent in global challenges such as sustainability, the current pandemic, the rise of populism, and the influence of new technologies. The Hague Diplomacy Platform interprets and broadens scientific insights regarding the role of diplomacy, aiming to reach both Dutch and international stakeholders, as well as students and young people.

The platform – currently in pilot form – is a partnership between Leiden University and The Hague Journal of Diplomacy. The current science communication activities include a monthly blog about diplomacy, a series of podcasts, weekly social media channels, (LinkedIn, Twitter, and soon Instagram), and ad hoc seminars/webinars.

The pilot will be followed by consolidation of the range of mainly online activities and its extension to broader groups of professionals and stakeholders outside the university, students, and young people. This will include appealing to youthful target groups via other social networking sites and debates on socially relevant topics and developments in international politics. The grant from the Rewarded! Fund will go towards implementing this consolidation and expansion.
