Educational Knowledge North Netherlands

Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, University of Groningen, Groningen Institute for Educational Research (GION)

How do you promote equal opportunity education? The Groningen education researchers like to see their expertise reflected in everyday educational practice. They therefore connect up educational research and educational practice, focusing on education in the north of the Netherlands: primary school teachers (and prospective teachers), school heads at the various kinds of secondary school, teacher trainers, educational designers and advisers, policymakers, and other education professionals.

They do this by actively facilitating knowledge-sharing and knowledge-utilisation, for example through the North Netherlands Educational Opportunities Workshop, the Academic Training School, the Education Science Shop, the ResearchED Groningen event, and “knowledge-sharing cafés”. They provide lectures, training sessions and workshops, and also post tweets on relevant topical educational and social issues. The group members are involved in various different programmes and their interaction with students is utilised to the full in science communication.

The grant from the Rewarded! Fund will be used to consolidate the various knowledge-sharing activities, highlight them, and further reinforce the network of parties in the education sector. This will involve organising a Knowledge Forum in which stakeholders will work together on complex education-related issues. This “societal lab” will promote the dissemination and integration of science-based information about good education and equal opportunity education.
